Street dwellers can now be cited, fined, or even jailed. This city is taking an ‘aggressive’ approach | CNN
www.cnn.com

San Francisco Mayor London Breed introduced what she calls a “very aggressive strategy” after the Supreme Court ruled people living on streets can be cited, fined, or even jailed even if they have nowhere to go. CNN’s Nick Watt joins a city sweep of an encampment and talks to the people living there.

It’s interesting how quickly they went from calling them “unhoused,” which sounds like a poor creature that just happens to need a forever home, to “street dwellers,” which sounds like a invasive horde coming to take your treats.

Surely it’s not the consent machine, though.

pushing hard that reddit narrative that being homeless is a “lifestyle choice”

also acting like there is some massive social democratic welfare system just rusting and waiting to be used if only they can be convinced to abandon their “lifestyle”

It’s devastating how many people think this country has a safety net. I couldn’t tell you how many times newly homeless people have come to me in shelter and asked about “housing vouchers” or “when I’ll get housed.”

Like sorry friend, I’m going to tell you, in the most polite terms possible, that you need to get either a job or acquire several terminal illnesses if you want to get out in any reasonable timeframe.

My state has some resources for poor people. You’ll get food stamps and medicaid, and they are pretty good. But housing is still either expensive or involves long waitlists.

Every now and then I’ll try to help someone out of state, and in a lot of places you don’t even get that.

i do wonder where this comes from sometimes. like maybe it’s from mostly politically inactive people hearing right wing propaganda second-hand and getting it mixed up with reality.

then there are the actual libs that seem to think there is an abundance of resources. r/povertyfinance is absolutely blackpilling for this shit. as soon as they get called out by a regular person in actual poverty that person gets dogpiled by a dozen libs trying to protect the reputation of their party at either the local or national level. then the thread gets locked.

people legit asking for help or resources and it’s just an endless stream of suggestions that don’t fucking exist.

I thought Unhoused was a leftist thing. It’s hard to keep track of all these terms.

I think it has liberal origins

Very much fits their niche of labeling more politely, then still being a monster

Breadtube if it didn’t suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It’s open submission unless there’s something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it’s currently in.
