I’m using macOS on an M1Pro MacBook Pro as a middle way between Windows and Linux. I’m also over 30 and I can’t stay I don’t like a profesional looking nice design and great materials/build quality. I had a really bad experience when I bought a new Lenovo gaming laptop 2 years ago with Ubuntu Linux. The trackpad and graphics card were not working due to driver issues. I think I also had to compile a kernel module…Full Disk Encryption I feel is also finicky. I always forget …is it LUKS on LVM or the other way around. btrfs was still not straightened out.

It’s actually the way the sound is remixed these days. I’m not going deaf😮💨. Old movie dialogue is loud and crisp as fuck. Just watch some TCM.

210·3 years agoWhy would they incur the cost of retrofitting their factories or production process for a small minority that wants removable batteries. If there was enough demand they’d know because they’d market it as a feature and profit from it. Truth is normies don’t care or prefer the look/feel of soldered batteries and unibody slim phones. I’d personally like all phones to have an unlocked bootloader but I know that’s not what the market wants and manufacturers rarely offer it. I can’t force them to make one for me so I just ignore them and buy the one with an unlocked bootloader.

812·3 years agoThe market has spoken. If there were enough normies who would want bulky phones with removable batteries they would buy them. But they don’t… They want shinny unibody phones with locked bootloaders and proprietary connectors. Only a small minority cares about these issues.

15·3 years agoDo you think humans don’t just “churn out text” at a basic level? Do you think humans don’t make mistakes or don’t confabulate? The confusion is not that we think too lowly of LLMs rather than that we think we are very special as humans. LLMs like GPT-4 have “sparks of AGI” in them, they are not just stochastic parrots. There are several academic papers that prove LLMs uderstand meaning. GPT-4, the full model, not the crippled chat variant for consumers, demonstrated superhuman coding abilities when researchers probed it’s abilities. It passed Google and Amazon coding interviews with 100 out of 100 score and finished the 2 hour assignment in 3minutes surpassing all human candidates. And it took it so long (3m) only because a human had to paste in the tasks.
